TYRESE GIBSON CALLS UPCOMING ‘1992' FILM A "REAL MONUMENTAL MOMENT FOR THE WEST"

Tyrese Gibson is ready to bring a West Coast story to audiences worldwide. Speaking with VIBE ahead of the 2024 BET Awards, the actor and his costar Christopher Ammanuel detailed the upcoming 1992 film.

“Something’s about to happen. It’s about to be a real monumental moment for the West,” explained Gibson, sharing that the trailer will be out soon. “This is a real movie that’s based out of the West, historically from the West. When the Rodney King verdict came in they let all them police officers off and said, ‘Not guilty,’ we burned the city down. And in the midst of that, there was a heist that took place.”

He continued, “I tell y’all something’s about to happen, it’s about to happen. A lot of big announcements. We love y’all,” with Ammanuel nodding in agreement.

After sharing details of 1992, the 45-year-old kept the conversation in the ’90s, reflecting on his participation in Usher’s career ahead of the “Superstar” performer’s Lifetime Achievement Award presentation.

“I’m the biggest Usher fan ever. I’ve been a fan of his. There’s only so many artists or actors or producers that I got their number in my phone and I still listen to their music as if I don’t know them, and he’s one of them. This is long overdue. He’s paid his dues,” he asserted. “And I think we’ve all learned a lot of lessons over the years about not honoring our stars and giving them their flowers while they’re still here.”

The homage continued, “I was a video vixen in Usher’s ‘My Way’ video, so he gave me opportunities before I even dropped my own first single. Shout out to Frank Gatson Jr. Shoutout to Jonnetta Patton, his moms, who’s a real icon and legend for all that she did throughout Usher’s career. I couldn’t be more proud.”
