MARVEL LEGEND WILL REPORTEDLY RETURN IN SPIDER-MAN 4; FANS STUNNED

There are a lot of upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies to be excited about. But perhaps the most exciting of them all is Spider-Man 4. Yes, Sony and Marvel will once again collaborate to bring Tom Holland's Peter Parker back to the MCU to do battle in the Multiverse Saga. He's also expected to return in the upcoming Avengers movies, so we'll likely be seeing a lot of Spidey in the foreseeable future, and that's a great thing.

When we last Spider-Man, he faced off against his greatest threats (and the greatest threats of other Spider-Men, too) and grew into an even greater hero. Spider-Man: No Way Home was a game-changer for both Peter and the MCU as a whole, leaving things in a very interesting place. It also included some familiar, potentially game-changing faces, too.

Now, it sounds like one of them will return in the next installment.

Charlie Cox will reportedly return as Daredevil in Spider-Man 4

It sounds like Matt Murdock will be crossing paths with Spider-Man once again on the silver screen. Marvel insider Cryptic4KQual (who has been reliable with scoops and reveals in the past) made the reveal on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, during a Q&A. Responding to a fan question that asked about the potential of Daredevil appearing in Spider-Man 4, the scooper replied "That's the plan".

Charlie Cox, who played the character in all three seasons of Netflix's Daredevil series (as well as appearing in other series in The Defenders' franchise), made his MCU debut as the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was a monumental moment in a movie full of monumental moments, as Matt Murdock was Peter's legal counsel in the days and weeks after his true identity as Spider-Man had been revealed to the world.

If he does indeed return in Spider-Man 4, it would be an incredible moment to see the pair work together as Spider-Man and Daredevil. The duo have crossed paths multiple times in the comics (and, famously, in Spider-Man: The Animated Series) and given how they both operate in New York City, it's inevitable at some point, right?

Another thing that could draw the duo together is a shared enemy, and it sounds like the MCU is going to have one of those pretty soon. The pair's archenemy in the comics, Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin, is currently vying for the role of New York City Mayor (as seen in Echo). The MCU has already established the bad blood between him and Daredevil, leaning on their history in the Netflix show to do so (and they will come face-to-face in upcoming Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again) but Fisk has yet to come across Spider-Man. Could the character's fourth movie make history by allowing that to happen?

An exciting MCU era full of crossover potential

There have been rumors that Wilson Fisk will have a supporting role in Spider-Man 4, perhaps as something of a leader for the film's primary villains, but nothing has been confirmed by Marvel Studios yet. But given Spidey's history with the Kingpin in the comics, it would be cool to see Tom Holland's webslinger and Vincent D'Onofrio's Mayor Fisk share the screen for the first time ever. If we're getting a more comic-accurate Spider-Man film series this time around, that would certainly be a way to help pull that off. As would pairing Spidey up with Daredevil for a scene or two. It's all so exciting to think about and further proof of the infinite crossover possibilities within the MCU going forward.

It's yet to be officially confirmed if Charlie Cox will actually appear or not, but to hear that it could potentially happen only adds to the ever-growing excitement for Spider-Man 4. Prior to that, however, the star will reprise his role in a different Spidey property, voicing Matt Murdock and The Man Without Fear in animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which is expected to be released on Disney Plus sometime this year. He then headlines Daredevil: Born Again in spring 2025.

Spider-Man, on the other hand, is expected to return for a brand new trilogy of films that will showcase a different side of Peter Parker's life. As we mentioned above, it's expected to take more of a comic-accurate approach, showcasing Spidey as the hero of his own neighborhood in Manhattan, going out on his own after learning from his heroes in the Homecoming trilogy.

Whatever the future holds for both heroes, the thought of seeing them together just once (with Wilson Fisk maybe even thrown in, too) is incredibly exciting. Here's hoping that it happens in the very near-future.
