LANDO NORRIS DRIVES MCLAREN P1 MADE WITH OVER 340,000 LEGO PIECES

Lando Norris, F1 driver for McLaren, completed a lap at Silverstone Circuit in a McLaren P1 made from Lego pieces.

The full-size car is made up of over 340,000 Lego Technic pieces and is powered by 768 Lego motors grouped into eight motor packs.

Although there are already other full-size Lego cars that move, this is the first time a Lego McLaren P1 has completed a lap on a circuit under its own power. The car’s exterior is made from flexible Lego pieces to ensure stability during the drive, and an additional car battery is used to provide enough power for the vehicle to complete the lap.

In a video, Norris mentions that the car handles surprisingly well, despite the mirrors swaying with the wind. By the end of the lap, the car remained intact, which is impressive considering it weighs around 1,225 kg and is entirely made of Lego, except for some parts like the wheels and dashboard.

Ben Gulliver, McLaren’s test and development director, praised the collaboration with Lego for bringing the realistic elements of the original McLaren P1 to life and hopes it will inspire future generations of designers and engineers.

For Lego enthusiasts, there is a 1:8 scale McLaren P1 kit available for purchase, allowing them to build their own version of the Lego supercar.
