This new model will be a continuation of the brand’s legacy in the sports car segment, replacing the Emira, Lotus’s last combustion engine car.

The company is working on its new Lightweight Electric Vehicle Architecture (LEVA), which allows for a lower and more flexible design, overcoming common limitations in electric platforms. The Type 135 will have a low stance and a style that follows the line of Lotus’s latest models, such as the Evija.

The Type 135 will be a two-seater sports car with a “mid-engine” layout, but instead of an internal combustion engine, it will have a battery pack positioned behind the seats. The base version will come with a 66 kWh battery, while more advanced versions will have a 99 kWh one. The expected power is 350 kW (469 hp) with a single rear electric motor, but the LEVA platform can accommodate space for two motors to achieve up to 650 kW (872 hp)

With forecasted sales between 10,000 and 15,000 units per year, Lotus hopes to reestablish itself in the sports car market with the Type 135.
