A road rage driver has dodged jail after ramming a car on a dual carriageway in North Wales.

Paul Woodward, 55, was going down a dual carriageway in his white Citroen Berlingo van when he lost his temper with the driver of a silver VW Golf.

CCTV cameras caught Woodward, 55, smashing into the back of the Golf causing it to spin out of control on the busy in September on the A55 eastbound, north Wales.

Woodward from Prestatyn, denied being at fault for the collision at Rhuallt Hill but jurors at Caenarfon Crown Court convicted him of dangerous driving at trial.

Detectives for North Wales Police reviewed the footage which shows Woodward ram his van into the Golf before it skids to a halt.

Officers were called to the collision which happened shortly after 4.30pm and CCTV footage was showed in court.

No one was injured during the road rage episode.

Woodward was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for 18 months.

He was ordered to carry out 20 days rehabilitation work and 150 hours unpaid work. He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.

PC Haydn Roberts-Powell of the Roads Crime Unit said: 'Paul Woodward’s actions that day were highly dangerous and it is a miracle that no-one, including other passing motorists, was seriously hurt.

'It is clear that this was fuelled by road rage which is clearly unacceptable. We will actively target those individuals that feel they can drive and act in this way.'
