UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE UPGRADES FLEET WITH ELECTRIC TRUCKS AND ENHANCED COMFORT

The new delivery trucks from the United States Postal Service (USPS), built by Oshkosh Defense, are replacing the old Grumman LLV models that have been in service since 1987.

These old vehicles, which lacked air conditioning and airbags, made postal workers’ jobs uncomfortable, especially on hotter days.

The new fleet, called Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDV), brings significant improvements such as air conditioning, airbags, and a larger cargo area, making the job safer and more pleasant for mail carriers.

In addition, these trucks are equipped with 360-degree cameras and parking sensors, further easing deliveries.

The USPS plans to expand the fleet to over 60,000 vehicles in the coming years, with most being electric. This change is part of an agency initiative to reduce its carbon emissions by 40% by 2030. Initially, the plan was for 66,000 electric vehicles, but after criticism, the plan was revised to ensure that 75% of new vehicles are electric by 2026, and that all future models are fully electrified.

The reception of the new trucks has been extremely positive among postal workers, who highlight the comfort and efficiency of the vehicles.
