Ford Fiesta may return as an electric car in partnership with Volkswagen (X @Ford)
This information surfaced after statements from Volkswagen’s head of sales and marketing, Martin Sander, who highlighted the successful results of the alliance between the two brands. Just like the Explorer and Capri SUVs, which use the base of the ID.4 and ID.5 models, the new Fiesta will also use a VW platform, but with Ford’s characteristic design.
The Fiesta was no longer sold in Europe as of 2023, after nearly 50 years on the market, and its absence created space for a new compact model in Ford’s portfolio. The new version, if confirmed, will likely adopt the MEB Entry platform, the same one used in the upcoming Volkswagen ID.1 and ID.2, with a promised range of up to 450 km and fast charging at 125 kW. These features would make the electric hatchback competitive against rivals like the Renault 5, Peugeot e-208, and Opel Corsa E.
Although there has been no official confirmation yet, both Ford and Volkswagen have shown interest in expanding their partnership to reduce costs and increase production scale, especially in the challenging European market. If the project moves forward, the new electric Fiesta could be launched within two to three years.
